Most people don't realize that glyphosate is not just found in farm fields and on GMO crops but is lurking in your next-door neighbor's garage and your neighborhood park, on the local golf course, or in your kid's playground. You can find glyphosate on nearly 100 non-GMO food crops, including vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, and cereals like wheat and oats. You can find it in wine, beer, ice cream, and pretty much everything else. Also, you wouldn't imagine in a whole host of ingredients, such as corn starch, beet and cane sugar, and even honey!
Glyphosate interrupts the body's ability to turn natural sulfites from food into sulfates that the body needs to detox and stay healthy. High sulfate levels heal the gut while supporting the absorption of many vital nutrients. Sulfates assist in clear brain fog and improve memory through increased blood flow.
Some suggested things to detox are drink and bathe in purified, start organic food from trusted sources, and if you can, grow your organic fruits, veggies, and herbs – it's easier than you think! Detox the liver and kidneys - these help the body eliminate glyphosate through urine. Also, focus on having two to three bowel movements every day. It might sound hard to achieve, but it will be smooth when you start changing your diet! Eliminating toxins through the bowels is key to detox.

Insulin-like growth factor-I and Decreases in growth hormone (GH), estrogen deficiency in women, diminished testosterone in men, loss of lean body mass, increased fat, and other changes consistent with hormone deficiencies occur during aging.
Not everyone scuffles with hormonal issues, but plenty of women and men experience their share of the hormonal problems. Anxiety, stress problems, depression, severe PMS, and menopause symptoms can result from hormonal imbalances.
According to Dr. J and Evan, the good news is that natural supplements can help balance your hormones in your daily lifestyle. Correcting hormone issues can make a significant impact on your health, wellness, and quality of life.

Wouldn’t it be easy if you could blame your constipation on one thing? While that typically isn’t the case, your irregularity could be pointing to either one or multiple causes. Let's watch and listen to Dr. J and Evan here, helping you learn what your gut may be trying to tell you, and what you can do about it.
If you’re constipated, your gut might simply be in sharp disagreement with your lifestyle. Poor diet and lack of physical activity are the most common causes of constipation, so it’s a good idea to rule these out first before looking into other causes.
Dr. J and Evan emphasized to make a few changes to your lifestyle and see if they result in any positive bowel changes. Such as more high-fiber foods in your meals: fruits, vegetables, whole grains. These steps will help you observe health changes - what works and what's not via tests results as well.
Take a moment to think about any other symptoms you have that your conventional/functional doctor might want to know about, such as fatigue, thinning hair, or changes in your weight. Ask your doctor if any of your medications could be causing changes in your bowel movements.

The gut and skin enjoy a constant dialogue via what has become known as gut-skin axis. In this video, Dr. J and Evan are discussing that while symptoms of gut health issues can be incredibly varied, the skin is often a great barometer for what’s going on inside the gut.
While it might not sound very glamorous, the gut is where 70 percent of our immune system lies. It’s where we make nutrients, metabolize hormones and detoxifying enzymes, neutralize pathogens and make neurotransmitters—so it’s super important to get your digestive health in check in order to feel well and of course, experience clear, glowing skin.
Our skin is our body’s largest organ; it is one of the major systems by which the body expels toxins and waste and is our first line of defense against harmful bacteria and pathogens. Also, almost all skin conditions are linked to gut health, but diagnosing whether or not your skin condition is caused by digestive issues can be tricky.
Moreover, it’s good to remember that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach and no ‘perfect’ probiotic profile guaranteed to work for everyone. The best thing you can do is eat a balanced food template in order to maintain good health.

POTS is a known blood circulation problem indicated by two elements: a specific group of symptoms that constantly happen when standing. A heart rate suddenly increases from horizontal to standing (or as tested on a tilt table) of at least 30 bpm in adults, or at least 40 bpm in adolescents, measured during the first 10 minutes of standing.
It is a form of dysautonomia — a problem of the autonomic nervous system. This part of the nervous system regulates functions involuntarily, such as blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, and sweat. The critical component of POTS is the particular symptoms and the exaggerated increase in heart rate when standing.
Management for POTS should be specific to each individual since the symptoms and underlying conditions may vary. Most patients can control the situation with food templates, exercise, and medications. Dr. J and Evan emphasize the importance of the quality of food that we eat and seek medical attention, and undergo tests that will find the disease's root cause for better understanding and achieve a healthier body.

Hey, guys! In this video, Dr. J and Evan talk about addressing gut symptoms via organic acid testing. To start with, Organic acid testing (OAT) became very popular amongst functional medicine doctors and dietitians. It is a urine-based test that gives essential information about the functioning of various bodily systems and to identify possible nutrient deficiencies, gut dysbiosis, and more.
Organic acid testing may be beneficial for people whose symptoms have not yet describe through other stool tests, blood work, or urinary hormone tests. It helps give an immense understanding of nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial function, neurotransmitter metabolism, detoxification abilities, antioxidant status, and gut health, which trained and experienced clinicians can utilize to dive deeper.
Additionally, it helps to identify sub clinically (non-symptomatic) metabolic imbalances to PREVENT chronic illness from developing. Organic acids are results of metabolism that provide insights into how different bodily systems perform. A person who has a chronic health condition or wants to have insight into their general metabolic health is likely to benefit from this test since it only requires collecting a urine sample. Plus, OAT is quick and painless for patients. Also, interpreting OAT results is very complicated, so it’s best to review your results with a health professional or functional doctor who has experience with OAT.

In this podcast, Dr. J and Evan talk about the adrenal glands in our body - to produce certain hormones directly into the bloodstream. These hormones will respond to stress and other necessities to our existence. Also, they are discussing the detailed test needed to identify the root cause of problems and what other materials and hormones are essential to keep our adrenals and body healthy.
The adrenal cortex's vital hormones include: (1) Cortisol - controls our sleep/wake cycle. It is released during stress to help your body to boost energy and better handle an emergency. (2) Aldosterone helps regulate the blood pH by controlling the electrolytes' levels in the blood. (3) DHEA and androgenic steroids are precursor hormones that are converted in the testes into male hormones (androgens) and ovaries into female hormones (estrogens). (4) Epinephrine (Adrenaline) and Norepinephrine (Noradrenaline) are often activated in emotionally and physically stressful situations when your body needs additional energy sources to endure unusual strain.
To support the body naturally, Dr. J recommends using herbs such as maca and ashwagandha. Progesterone, estrogen, and estriol may be fit for a patient. However, it is essential to know that protocols may be different for every patient since presentations and lab results may differ.

As an adult, maybe you’re struggling with some of these symptoms yourself, things like anxiety, perhaps depression or mood issues, those types of things. Or many of you have kids with these types of mental health symptoms and problems. Functional Medicine is a form of integrative medicine that focuses on addressing the root causes of a person’s symptoms rather than merely treating the symptoms themselves and, in this case, manage stress. Here are Dr. J and Evan Brand sharing their insights about different approaches for stress reduction.
"I can't relax without a glass of wine." There is no wrong with that as long as you make sure that it is clean alcohol and consume it after a meal to avoid blood sugar swing. Aside from the tests needed, a healthy diet, daily exercise, and meditation can improve your brain chemistry.
Dr. J suggested to pay attention to nutrients first and some natural herbs such as ashwagandha, rhodiola, holy basil, etc. Watch the whole video to know interesting details about functional medicine in mental health.

Serotonin deficiency has common symptoms, including low mood and poor sleep quality. Most of the time, taking antidepressant medications called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can improve serotonin deficiency symptoms. So in this video, Dr. J and Evan talk about the root causes and presentation of this condition.
Our serotonin helps regulate a wide range of bodily functions, including sleep, bladder and bowel functions, orgasm, and emotions. It plays such an essential role in the body, it can be hard to determine whether low serotonin is causing a problem.
Some symptoms you may encounter are mood instability, depression, anxiety, sleep changes, attention, etc. It is when vitamins such as vitamin B6, B12, vitamin C, adaptogens, maca, and a good-balanced food template to maintain health.

Dealing with toxic substances can be an overwhelming experience. With that in mind, it helps when things are simplified and made into relatable terms. Intestinal binders are a crucial part of any detox protocol. When the liver processes toxins, they get excreted through bile and into the small intestine. If the toxins are not bound to anything, most of them will get reabsorbed in the gut.
It is important to note that certain health conditions may make binder types more or less desirable. Having a good practitioner help determine those choices for you is always advisable. Also, there are some circumstances, such as in autoimmune disease and infectious conditions, that require the use of precaution and targeted choices with binders. Proper sourcing is critical as with all supplements, as each of them can come with unnecessary risks if they are not high-grade/quality.
Binders are like free hall passes! In using a binder, your body is spared the work required to process a toxin through the liver and gallbladder and is, instead, excrete from the body. Watch the full video to know more about what suits you!

Inflammation is our bodies' natural response against infection, injuries, wounds, and other forms of harm. However, inflammation can cause problems too. It is when some conditions are causing continuous inflammation resulting in tissue injuries along the way.
In this video, Dr. J and Evan Brand talk about some herbal remedies that might help you deal with yours or gear you to avoid unnecessary inflammation. Although there are anti-inflammatory drugs available in the market, some of these lead to unwanted side-effects or, perhaps, not useful.
For people with inflammatory issues, it's also good to consider natural herbs to manage it. Some natural herbs you can try are turmeric, ginger, and green tea since some evidence claims its effectiveness. These are generally safe, but it's still good to consult or discuss this with your physician to make sure that it fits you.

Collagen is rich in numbers in our bodies. It is an essential part of connective tissues that make up our tendons, cartilages, and muscles. Also, it functions to give fair skin structure, smooth hair, healthy nails, and bone strength.
On the other hand, glycine is an amino acid that your body utilizes to create proteins. It is also responsible for maintaining the connective tissues and making other substances, such as hormones and enzymes. Naturally, our bodies can produce glycine from other amino-acids, but there are also protein-rich food and dietary supplements.
Dr. J and Evan Brand emphasized that glycine and collagen provide outstanding health benefits. Our body needs glycine to make essential compounds such as glutathione, creatine, and collagen. Also, collagen helps promote muscle mass, relieve joint pain, and reduces wrinkles and skin dryness.

Getting enough vitamin D is essential to your long-term health. It's relatively easy to get vitamin D through sun exposure most of the year, but that changes come wintertime. So here is Dr. J and Evan discussing why vitamin D matters and how to keep your levels up, even when the days are short and the skies are snowy and gray.
Vitamin D absorbs calcium and helps you maintain healthy bones. It also contributes to the health of your muscles, nerves, and immune system. So if you don't get enough vitamin D, you may be at risk of developing rickets, osteoporosis, other bone disorders, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. Older adults, people with dark skin, and obesity are more likely to have a vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D is called the "sunshine vitamin" because your body makes it when sunlight hits the skin. It's more important to keep your vitamin D levels up during the winter because you are at greater risk for getting sick and tend to spend less time outdoors.
Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that many people don't get enough of. That said, you can boost your vitamin D levels by eating foods rich in vitamin D, getting more sun exposure, and adding supplements to your diet.

You might have heard that dopamine is the “feel good” neurotransmitter. In many ways, it is. In this video, Dr. J and Evan are talking about dopamine and how it is essential for our health.
Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter. Your body makes it, and your nervous system uses it to send messages between nerve cells. That's why it's sometimes called a chemical messenger. Dopamine plays a role in how we feel pleasure. It's a big part of our unique human ability to think and plan. It helps us strive, focus, and find things interesting.
It’s hard to pinpoint a single cause of most mental health disorders and challenges. But they're often linked to too much or too little dopamine in different parts of the brain and it also plays a role in diseases that aren’t related to mental health.

Mycotoxin exposure from food occurs globally but is more common in hot humid environments, especially in low-income settings, and might affect pregnancy outcomes. However, frequent mold contamination of maternal diet can therefore affect anyone. In this video, Dr. J and Evan talks about mycotoxins and how it can affect men and women's fertility.
On the other hand, becoming pregnant and having mold grow in your home can cause a multitude of problems for you and your baby’s health. Maternal allergies secondary to black mold exposure can lead to serious damages to the growing fetus. This includes brain damage and problems with the respiratory system.
Dr. J also mentioned that men are also not safe from this issue because it can also affect their sperm count.
Dr. J suggests to pay attention to your health by making sure to prevent leaks in you home that will attract mold, hormones, amino acids, etc.

Safe drinking water is something we tend to take for granted, until a crisis like lead contamination makes us wonder what chemicals could be lurking in our own taps. Here's Dr. J and Evan to tell us all about these toxins and what we can do to make our water at home more safer.
Water is important for life without it also life is not possible. But nowadays the quality of water is deteriorating and is a matter of concern across the world. Pure water is one of the greatest natural resource in the world. Do you know that metabolic functions of our body depend upon water? Since ancient time civilizations are built around the abundant supplies of water.

Parasitic infections are a big problem in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. In this video, Dr. J and Evan will share how to handle these cases. One of these is giardiasis that may cause diarrhea, gas, upset stomach, greasy stools, and dehydration; cryptosporidiosis, which may cause stomach cramps, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dehydration, weight loss, and fever; toxoplasmosis may cause flu-like symptoms, including swollen lymph nodes and muscle aches or pains that can last for over a month.
Getting to the root of poor health symptoms is foundational in functional medicine. That’s why, with low thyroid patients, functional practitioners will spend so much time working to identify the factors lurking under the surface that are causing inflammatory harm. This can be anything from poor diet to toxic exposure or even infections. However, when it comes to infection, things get more complicated and parasites are often a primary factor in low thyroid cases. Dr. J also shared that some current screening methods miss most parasites, and conventional doctors rarely test for parasites, especially in low thyroid and other autoimmune conditions. Also, parasite cleanses a general approach to eradicating infections. While that can absolutely work for some people, we have a better opportunity to design tailored approaches by using advanced testing. Once the parasite is eradicated, there is more work to be done.
Parasites cause damage that can perpetuate problems even after the infection is dealt with. It’s critical to identify the parasite and the secondary conditions that need support to heal. Different treatments work for different parasites; thus, while general parasite cleanses can sometimes help, I prefer to figure out the specific parasite type through advanced testing.

Eating a healthy diet can reduce the negative effects of stress on your body and a healthy diet builds a solid, more enduring foundation for your body by reducing oxidation and inflammation and by helping to reduce weight gain. So in this video, we have Dr. J and Evan talking about how we can handle stress while trying to stay fit and healthy.
Of course, and especially when we're extra busy and, subsequently, more likely to be stressed, eating healthy is certainly not an easy habit to maintain. For many, prepping healthy meals doesn't always fit into a busy schedule and dining out is the norm more often than not. This generally contributes to a less healthy diet. We all know how easy it is to treat ourselves to that rich, high-fat meal we have been craving — but would usually not fix for ourselves.
For this reason, building a healthy food prep habit into your daily or weekly routine can greatly improve your overall diet, and eventually lead to reduced stress levels.

Some people with allergies may find relief by using natural plant extracts and foods that will act as antihistamines. So in this video, Dr. J and Evan Brand talk about allergies and natural and functional medicine approach.
Antihistamines are common substances that prevent histamine activity in our body. Histamine is a protein that triggers symptoms of allergies, such as itchy eyes, sneezing, and a scratchy throat. Over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription antihistamine drugs are effective for symptom relief, but they can cause side effects, such as drowsiness and nausea. As a result, presence of side effects from drugs cause people wish to try natural alternatives.
Dr. J and Evan recommended initial things that can help you manage stress. Stress hormones wreak havoc in the body, especially in the immune system, making seasonal allergies even worse. Consider stress management methods such as meditation, taking time out for self-care, and avoiding over-committing your schedule. Constant house cleaning can get rid of many allergens and help relieve your symptoms.
Often, allergies will get worse by toxins within our body. The liver is a great negotiator of inflammation in the body, and when it is working overtime metabolizing our stress, alcohol, medications, and processed foods, allergies can flare up. Detox your body by eliminating fried foods, sugar, alcohol, and other toxins from your diet. For more detailed steps and solutions, don't miss out on the full podcast to fix or avoid allergies!

The AIP diet is an elimination and reintroduction protocol which aims to reduce inflammation in the gut, heal the gastrointestinal tract and in turn, reduce overall systemic inflammation. It is a diet targeted specifically at autoimmune diseases. We have Dr. J and Evan chatting about the benefits of this diet and how it can bring our body to a healthier state.
One of the biggest benefits of the AIP diet is its ability to alleviate inflammation, which is key to reducing symptoms of autoimmune conditions and promoting better health. Eliminating a few specific foods from the diet and filling up on nutrient-dense whole foods instead can have a powerful effect when it comes to inflammation.
The AIP diet is an elimination diet designed to reduce symptom severity in those with an autoimmune disease. The first phase of the diet restricts many types of foods that can cause inflammation and leaky gut. Foods are then slowly reintroduced and assessed for tolerance. The AIP diet is a stricter form of the Paleo diet, and many foods that are allowed on the Paleo diet are eliminated on the AIP diet, such as nuts, seeds, eggs and dairy products. Although this diet may be able to help relieve symptoms for those with an autoimmune condition, it should be paired with other healthy lifestyle changes to achieve optimal results.

Hey guys! Here's Dr. J and Evan talking about the link between tiredness and the state of our gut.
Tiredness is not a symptom that defines any one particular disease. Rather, tiredness can be a symptom of many different diseases and conditions. Causes of tiredness range from lack of sleep and over exercise to medical and surgical treatments. The lack of energy (lethargy) associated with tiredness can sometimes cause difficulty with normal daily activities, leading to attentiveness and concentration problems.
In medical terminology, Fatigue refers to the state of reduced capacity for work or accomplishment following a period of mental or physical activity. For example, muscles fatigue if they are called upon to work for an extended period repetitively. Most of the causes of tiredness are also associated with fatigue.
Dr. J suggested considering to support protein breakdown by extra amino acids and enzymes. Evan also added that if you have issues, always reach your conventional Dr. or functional Dr., be tested, find the root cause and guide to fix possible infections that cause you to feel tired before you reach a crisis level.

While often overlooked, the role of the nervous system in recovery is paramount. In this video, Dr. J and Jodi Cohen - a bestselling author, award-winning journalist, and founder of Vibrant Blue Oil. They highlight the key physical and mental/emotional factors that stress the nervous system, activate the parasympathetic nervous system for optimal recovery, and how it is connected to your vagus nerve, and how can it affect motility.
While there are many ways to strengthen the PNS response and relax the mind and body, it is important to identify which one(s) will benefit a client the most. Giving them too many new techniques may only increase stress levels.
We often hear meditation and massage are two potent techniques to help with physical recovery from exercise and lower the body’s mental stress response. Jodi here also introduce oils that are so stimulatory, most especially to your vagus nerve, which large divisions of this nerve extends to the digestive system. Also, the vagus nerve sends commands (when the body is not under stress)that slow heart and breathing rates and increases digestion.
