We've got Dr. Justin Marchegiani and Dr. Bill Rawls are talking co-infections and fibromyalgia. Our guest, Dr. Rawls, started out as a conventional OBGYN. In his 40's when he suffered from fibromyalgia and Lyme disease, he quickly realized none of his conventional medicine colleagues could help him, and this was his turning point.
We're looking at why you might move away from antibiotics and into herbal medicine to use a herb or fungi's own anti-microbial properties to your advantage. Dr. J gets specific herbs with direct anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties mentioned, like cat's claw, andrographis, Japanese knotweed, garlic extract, and cryptolepis. Some others like reishi mushrooms, cordyceps, and salvia miltiorrhiza (red sage) work well with the support of glutathione.
This is such a great podcast, some other topics covered are the quality of the herbs sourced, the stress and stories behind every patient, everyday nutrition, patient assessment and testing (and how Dr. Rawls differs), and much more.

We call your tummy an inflammation meter, and your weight can be a good indicator of your metabolism and the inflammation in your body.
We've known for decades how processed, starchy carbs break down into glucose and fructose if no exercise is involved these stay in the body creating fat in your cells. If you wanted to check for this in yourself, your doctor would look at fasting insulin levels and do a functional glucose tolerance test.
An imbalance of bacteria in the gut can also be one reason for mysterious weight gain. If this bacteria is causing inflammation in your gut then your body will release cortisol which can immobilize glucose. If you're surging cortisol, a good walk or circuit workout can help your body use up the glucose instead of storing it.
In order to lose weight in a healthy manner, you need B vitamins, CoQ10, and many other important nutrients for your mitochondria to run fatty acid oxidation so you can generate ATP as the cellular currency for energy so you can burn fat for fuel. Be an energy burner, not an energy store.
If you feel like you're not eating a lot of carbs and sticking to a lot of meat, try to remember you need to hit all your nutrient (macro) goals for each day too. Go for unlimited non-starchy vegetables. Organ meats and egg yokes are all nutrient-dense as well.
If you drop most processed, high-fructose, starchy carbs you're body will drop glucose production, then drop insulin, then drop water, and then sodium and you'll see weight loss. But if this still doesn't do it, you need to look into the gut, inflammation, the compounds that make up the foods you eat regularly, your digestion, hormones, and/or more to get to the root cause.

Dr. J talks about bloating and its connections with mold, low stomach acid, bacterial overgrowth, h. pylori, fungal overgrowth/candida and parasite infections. Mold and mycotoxins may also play a role in causing sympathetic and adrenal stress that could affect digestion. Food allergens and too much-processed carbohydrates may also feed bad bacteria that could contribute to bloating and gas.
The cause of your bloating might not be what you think it is. And how does mold fit in this puzzle? Dr. Justin Marchegiani is drawing a line between the root cause and palliative solutions. We're also looking at more natural solutions to help treat and relieve your bloating. Of course, very important is the root cause and checking back to that so everything connects and encourages better digestion and less bloating.
We're talking about the tests we conduct to help get down to the root of your bloating, chronic vs. acute bloat, and the next steps. Let's ditch the discomfort of bloating!
